Happy Cyber Monday – Top 5 Toy Robots For The Holidays Plus My 2 Cents

Before we get into the Top 5 Toy Robots this Christmas, I’m wondering why does good news always have to involve a negative spin to it?

Today is Cyber Monday and I’m glad to report that people spent more money this year than last. Storefront sales were up nearly 7% from 2010 and Online Sales grew a staggering 23% year over year which I’m sure included many purchases of toy robots. This is great news as the economy continues to improve. However, what frustrates me is when all these news outlets continue to report positive news with a negative spin. Examples of this in today’s news; “Black Friday is a Win, But there’s a Downside for Retailers” or “Black Friday sales indicate Hope for America.”  Why can’t it just be left that, Black Friday sales went up over the year prior, instead of adding a contradictory twist to it resulting in continual fear in the consumer. A lot of the hesitation to spend is based on the perception that the economy is on the verge of another recession. This perception is created daily by the media.

Anyways, now on to toy robots for the holidays… With the good news in consumer spending over the weekend, I’m sure today is going to be just as successful if not more than the numbers above. Since, today is the largest spending day on the internet, I thought I’d share the Top 5 Toy Robots and other Robotic Gifts that would be an excellent choice for anyone. So without further adieu, here’s the list of 2011 Top 5 Must Have Toy Robots & Gifts;

Watch Out Roomba! The Neato Robot Vacuum Is Sweeping Its Way Through Homes

Saturday’s are always good for a good ‘ole Robot Vacuum battle! I felt the need to post an article on the Neato robot vacuum cleaner because it seems to get overshadowed by iRobot’s Roomba. Plus, Christmas is a little over a month away and a cleaning robot vacuum would make a great gift (its on my short list). The Roomba robot vacuum cleaner is the biggest selling household robotic tech in the world. More than 6 million have been sold but does that make it a better cleaning robot vacuum than the Neato. You may not be familiar with Neato, so lets take a quick look at the company then we’ll put them head-to-head for some helpful robot vacuum comparisons.

Neato is a newer company based out of Newark, California and currently only produces the robot vacuum cleaner. Contrary to the Roomba robot vacuum, which promiscuously navigates around a room, the Neato cleaning robot vacuum travels in straight paths with little to no overlap. This is contributed due to the assistance of a laser rangefinder, which spans around in a full 360° circle, and the algorithm which allows it to map the room being vacuumed while it is completing its task. Even more impressive, the Neato XV-15 (latest model) robot vacuum is able to locate its charger and charge itself when running out of energy. It’s good about preventing accidents down stairs and over ledges as the robot vacuum is equipped with sensors that avoid it from a fall. If Neato happens to be cleaning a home that exceeds its one charge battery, after it returns itself back to its charger and refuels, it is able to return back to the exact spot picking up where it left off.

Robot Vacuum Cleaner Reviews

I decided to search the net from some first-hand robot vacuum cleaner reviews from people that own these bots. Below is a few snippets of advice that was posted recently:

“Both have their advantages that the other does not. I find the Roomba, with its side brush03 neato xv 11 all floor robotic vacuum system1 Watch Out Roomba! The Neato Robot Vacuum Is Sweeping Its Way Through Homes and wall-following action, does a better job along edges. The Neato does a more methodical job.”

“In the case of a large floor plan, it is great that the Neato can go recharge itself, and then pick up where it left off and finish the job. But I don’t have a large enough house to have ever seen that happen.”

“The Neato vacuum cleaner appears to have some hacker options that are becoming known and may add to its overall function. For some reason iRobot seems to have abandoned the hacker effort.”

“I’ve owned a few Roomba’s and a XV-11. I have to say that the XV-11 has a lot of growing up, which will take time of course. Roomba cleaning vacuum has come a long way and has been at it much longer than Neato.”

Robot Vacuum Cleaner Verdict

Seems to be split decision as both of them have their pros and cons. Neato could arguably have a slight edge based on all the reviews I read as overall, it has less complaints. My vote goes to the Neato for 2 reason; I like siding with the underdog and because I like the word Neato over Roomba!

Below is a helpful video that reviews the latest Neato robot vacuum cleaner in action. Check it out!

You get a Roomba that actually detects the dirtiest areas of your house and prioritizes its schedule to focus more time in those areas. Talk about intelligent robotics. It’s equipped with a touchpad and has an indicator letting you know when the it needs to be emptied. Over the years, the Roomba vacuum cleaner hasn’t had much competition but there’s a new player in town. The Neato vacuum cleaning robot is reveiws already and they’ve only been in production for a couple years. I put them head-to-head in this article to see what robot vacuum cleaner performs the best!

For those of you who haven’t actually seen a robot vacuum cleaner in action, they’re really cool and work great too. The reviews on the Roomba robot vacuum cleaner have always been consistently outstanding. Hopefully the price will continue to decrease making it possible for every household to have a Roomba. Even though the cost hasn’t been too much of a damper considering iRobot has sold over 6 million Roomba’s worldwide.
